The Complete Guide to Polo is the perfect resource for anyone interested in finding out more about this exciting game, especially those new to the sport. It discusses the history and evolution of the sport that we know today and its migration from India to Asia to Europe, and finally the Americas. It describes in detail the equipment used by both horse and rider, and offers advice on choosing one kind of equipment over another. The book covers the horsemanship skills needed to excel in the game, and breaks down the swing into bite-sized chunks for analysis. It looks at basic polo strategy, explains the finer aspects of the rules of the sport, and compares the differences between the US and UK rule books. All in all it offers a great foundation for the beginner or intermediate player, the patron, or the spectator.

Lauren Thorpe Dibble has been riding horses since early childhood. She was introduced to the sport of polo in her early teens and never turned back. When it came time to choose a college, Virginia Intermont College boasted the top equestrian degree in the Untied States. The school year was spent taking classes such as Equine Instruction, Stable Management, Ferrier Science and Equine Anatomy and Physiology, and the summer was spent living in the barns with the horses, working polo games, training horses, and playing polo. After completing her Equine Studies degree, she spent the next several years working as a groom, training polo ponies, managing polo stables and playing semi-professionally. This combination of classical and formal equine education, combined with experience working her way up the polo ladder, gives her a fresh perspective on the sport.
