Review
Costa Rica is undeniably beautiful, with its beaches, rainforests, ancient ruins and coffee plantations. The only question is which guide to use. Fodor's is the one if you've a flush wallet and rental car plans. Fodor's excels in providing comprehensive information (plus alphabetically arranged senior discounts, ecotourism, transport, health, gay travel, and weather), but its heart is in sight seeing. The chapters (San Jose, outer regions, biological reserves, and Panama excursions) provide lodging and restaurants (veering toward but not limited to the high end), shopping, and sights. All of the features are competently reviewed, with especially fine organization, sight-seeing opportunities, and quality dining and lodging options.
