About this title

Synopsis

Step into the meeting-houses, town courts and frontier stockades of 17th century Connecticut, where a small Puritan colony wrestled with faith, law and survival. Benjamin Trumbull's A Complete History Of Connecticut, Civil And Ecclesiastical (Volume II) traces the maturing of the colony from its earliest planters through to 1764 and the close of the Indian wars in New England. The detail here is astonishing. Trumbull carefully intertwines colonial government and law, the ecclesiastical history of Connecticut, and the story of Puritan settlers and churches shaping a distinctive New England society. Written in the generation after these events, this classic early American history book offers a contemporaneous voice on the formation of the New England colonies. It ranges across legislation, church councils, wars, treaties and everyday discipline, making it an indispensable reference for historians, students of colonial New England studies, and readers intrigued by New England colonies history and Indian wars in New England. Ideal, too, for homeschool Early America curriculum, it gives context and continuity for those who cherish Magnalia Christi Americana and other foundational narratives of the era. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure. This handsome heritage volume invites both casual readers seeking a definitive colonial Connecticut history book and serious collectors to encounter Trumbull's monumental vision in a form suited to modern reading and long-term preservation.
