A Complete History Of England: From The Descent Of Julius Caesar, To The Treaty Of Aix La Chapelle, 1748. Containing The Transactions Of One Thousand Eight Hundred And Three Years (Volume Iii)

Power struggles, shifting crowns, and the making of a nation unfold through a sharp, contemporary eighteenth-century mind. History here feels urgently alive. In Volume III of A Complete History of England, Tobias Smollett brings his narrative history of England to a sweeping maturity, tracing england from caesar to 1748 with the eye of a novelist and the judgement of a historian. Written as an eighteenth century history classic, it blends close attention to sources with vivid storytelling, examining the long contest between english monarchy and parliament, the entanglement of early modern england politics with European courts, and the great currents of british wars and diplomacy that shaped medieval to georgian england. Smollett, a major voice alongside his contemporary David Hume, offers a distinctive perspective that still rewards for readers of david hume seeking another classic english history volume grounded in the concerns of its own age. Perfect both for history students and scholars and for british history enthusiasts, this volume stands as a key work in the smollett history of england collection, valuable for study yet immensely readable. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions, it is restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure, carefully prepared so that modern readers may encounter this landmark account of England's past as its first audience once did: as serious history told with narrative force.
