The Complete Justice Of The Peace: Containing Extracts From Burn's Justice, And Other Justiciary Productions : The Whole Altered And Made Conformable To The Laws And Manners Of Administering Justice, Particularly In The State Of New Hampshire, And Generally In The Other Of The United States, by Moses Hodgdon. This historical legal manual from the late 18th–early 19th century assembles the powers, duties, and procedures of Justices of the Peace in New Hampshire. Part 1 sets a constitutional-statutory framework and outlines the magistrate’s role, jurisdiction, and ethical obligations, tracing origins from English peace officers to American practice. It combines theory with practical templates, including civil pleadings, writs, judgments, and other forms for civil and quasi-criminal matters. Topics cover civil jurisdiction, limits of authority, record-keeping, and the administration of debt, referees, and arbitration. The volume pairs didactic discussion with ready-to-use templates to guide the peace court in administering a broad spectrum of civil actions within established law.
