Kate Buchanan teaches knitting and has designed several projects for Simply Knitting magazine. Laura Long has studied textiles in the past and has won awards for her work. Sian Luyken has designed garments for Simply Knitting and Magknits. Louise Butt is a long time knitter and crocheter.
Kate Buchanan is the founder of the Westender Stitch ‘n’ Bitch knitting group in Ealing and was a finalist National Knitting Award 2005 with the design ‘Biastripe’. She teaches hand knitting at Chelsea College of Art and Design and has designed several projects for Simply Knitting magazine. In 2005 she launched a range of knitting kits, GiftedKnits, which includes a Learn To Knit kit with CD.
Laura Long studied textiles (specializing in Knitwear) at Central St. Martins School of Art, where she became interested in traditional Irish crafts such as lace, crochet Aran knitting and knotwork. After graduating with 1st class honours she was awarded a prestigious Textprint prize to exhibit at Indigo, Paris, followed by exhibitions at both London and Paris fashion weeks. She then worked in Ireland with the fashion designer John Rocha and is now involved in various knitwear design project, including designing hand knitted garments and accessories for the Rowan seasonal magazines and designing and making garments and accessories for fashion houses.
Sian Luyken is an experienced hand-knitter who learnt from her grandmother before she started school. She has designed garments for Simply Knitting and Magknits and she is co-organizer of the London knitting group Angelknits.
Louise Butt started knitting and crocheting at the age of seven and began designing both knitting and crocheting garments for sale in her mother’s yarn shop in her teens. After University she worked for a magazine publisher, while still knitting and crocheting in her spare time. Since January 2005 she has been Operations Editor on Simply Knitting and has designed many projects for publication in the magazine.
