This is a handsome, custom fine binding copy of "The Complete Opera Book - The Stories of the Operas, Together with 410 of the Leading Airs and Motives in Musical Notation" by Gustav Kobbe. 1929; G.P. Putnam's Sons; London & New York. The book is profusely illustrated "with 64 portraits in costume and scenes from opera." This copy has been beautifully bound by RIVIERE & SON of London - full leather binding with elaborate gilt decorations on the spine and inside covers, marbled end papers, gilt page edges on all sides of the text block, and five raised bands on the spine. The bookbinder's mark is printed on the front end paper. Condition: The leather is stained along the bottom third of the front cover, at the top-right corner of the front cover, and at the bottom-right corner of the back cover. This staining is likely due to water exposure, as the first two-thirds of the text pages have a bit of light rippling at the bottom edge (despite the light rippling, there is no visible stain). The pages at the final third of the book are free of rippling. Aside from the light rippling, the pages are clean with no writing or foxing; one page was found that has a tiny tear at the outer edge. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Bright gilt page edge on all sides of the text block. Overall the book is in Good condition.
