Finely bound in three quarters morocco over cloth, with gilt to spine. Top edge brightly gilt. Measuring 195 x 130mm and collating complete: xiii, [3], 554, [2]. A Near Fine example, with a bit of sunning to spine and front board. Discreet bookseller's stamp to front endpaper and ownership signature of Louise W. Howe to front pastedown else unmarked. A lovely copy. Drawing together Milton's works into a scholarly edition, the present book contextualizes his lyric poems, closet dramas, and masques as well as providing facsimile examples of their original title pages. In addition to larger works like Paradise Lost and Samson Agonistes, the volume includes some of his shorter poetry such as L'Allegro and Il Pensoroso and numerous Psalms. Seller Inventory # 5488
