A smart prize-bound copy of the poetry and translations of C. S. Calverley. Containing Calverley's own poetry, as well as translations of Homer, Virgil, Horace and Theocritus.Charles Stuart Calverley was an English poet and wit active in the nineteenth century, known for his work in what has been nicknamed the 'university school of humour'. He was also known for his translations of ancient verse.Presented in December 1914 to C. Cokayne Smith for a Distinction in Trials.Bound by Spottiswoode & Co.; with gilt detail to the spine. In a half calf binding. Externally generally smart; a little rubbed to the extremities and the head of the spine, as well as the raised bands. Prize inscription to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good.
