Lewis May, and Many Illustrations by Frank C. Papé, in Two Volumes, complete. (499pp, 730pp.) This Edition Limited to 4300 numbered sets, of which this is No.1486. Black cloth, gilt lettering and decorative borders, the corners bumped, the gilt bright at base, slightly rubbed at top, and entirely faded from spine. Vol.1 front hinge starting, Vol.2 also just barely starting towards end. Edges slightly foxed, and some scattered foxing throughout, including to the border of some of the plates. Illustrated with engravings in fantastic (in its literal meaning) style; Papé is a master of fantasy art combined with caricature. Vol.1 contains 10 plates + frontispiece, Vol.2 has 12 + frontispiece, and both are decorated with sundry additional illustrations throughout the text. Overall a decent set. Heavy, of course, combined weight 2kg before packaging; UK postage more than standard, and overseas very expensive.
