The complete works of French renaissance writer Francois Rabelais. Sub-titled 'Abstractor of the quintessence being an account of the inestimable life of the great Gargantua, and the heroic deeds, sayings and marvellous voyages of his son the good Pantagruel: the whole faithfully rendered into English by Sir Thomas Urquhart and Peter Motteux, with annotations by Duchat, Ozell and others, a New Introduction by J Lewis May, and many illustrations by Frank C Pape' D/w to Vol 1 is complete but in three pieces having become detached each side of the shine.
