Undated, circa 1870. Brown half leather boards with no lettering to front or spine. Front board is detached but present. Boards are worn, marked and generally grubby. Corners bumped and worn. Wear to board edges. Spine is splitting from the rear board. Most of the leather spine is missing, and card underneath is coming loose. Page edges are rather grubby. All edges gilt. Marbled endpages. Tear to FFEP. Front inner hinge has failed. Rear inner hinge has failed. B/w frontispiece. Textblock has one or two grubby marks but is generally clean. Some pages show water stain to edges. 824 pp. 23 plates. 8 maps. This is a particularly heavy item which would be uneconomic to ship overseas. UK orders only, please.
