8vo. Second edition. First published by Random House in the USA in 1937. Rebound in half red calf over marbled paper boards. Navy leather label to spine, with five raised bands and alternating cards and rabbits in the other compartments. Top edge gilt. Marbled paper endpapers. Printed by Robert MacLehose & Co. The Alice books are illustrated with John Tenniel's illustrations. Just a tiny amount of loss to the lower edges of the binding from something such as silverfish. Bookplate of Ina Tollemache to the front free endpaper. Near fine. Reviewed by Evelyn Waugh, Virginia Woolf and E. M. Forster between October and December 1939. A beautiful gift edition of the complete works of Lewis Carroll.
