The Complete Works of Robert Burns: Containing His Poems, Songs, and Correspondence

"The Complete Works of Robert Burns: Containing His Poems, Songs, and Correspondence. With a New Life of the Poet, and Notices, Critical and Biographical, by Allan Cunningham", this is a book of exceptional value and quality, the green leather binding has blind stamped designs as well as gold tooling stamped designs on the spine and covers, the spine has four raised bands and five compartments. This is one of the finest bindings I have seen in my 25 years of collecting. The same green leather cover binding goes about 1 1/2" in from the inside cover towards the center. Covering the rest of the inside covers is a pink dyed leather with a gold tooled rose. I have not yet been able to find the mark of the binder. Decorated end papers. All Edges Gold. There are approximately 65 full-page plates with tissue guards. This book was printed circa 1842 which seems to match the printing style and matches the date on the majority of the engravings. 47 page preface and dedication followed by 422 pages plus additional pages for the glossary. There are only a few minor brown spots otherwise this book is complete, clean, and tight. A wondrous handcrafted binding anyone would want in their collection.…
