Grade 3-6–The author/illustrator of Open and Shut Cases?! (2004) and Case Closed?! (2003, both Millbrook) is back with a more challenging collection of three longer mysteries. An introduction explains to readers that they will find clues in the black-and-white illustrations. Each story is comprised of very brief chapters with a picture on nearly every page. The detectives, Daisy Pepper and Ridley Young, appear middle aged in the cartoon illustrations, reminiscent of those in Martin Handford's Where's Waldo books (Candlewick). In the first selection, a Blue Diamond is stolen. Next, a fortune-teller's monkey disappears. The final story concerns the kidnapping of robot Robby Bob. The illustrations are fairly unattractive; the clues are sometimes hard to see even when the author reveals the answer on the following page.
