Adolf Kirchhoff's "Die Composition der Odyssee: Gesammelte Aufsätze" presents a collection of essays delving into the intricate structure and composition of Homer's epic poem, the Odyssey. This compilation explores various facets of the text, from the role of Telemachus and the Argonaut legend to interpolations and the significance of characters such as Eurykleia and Melanthios. Kirchhoff's analysis extends to examining the influence of Hesiodic traditions, the Kalypso episode, encounters with the Kikonen, and the narratives involving Polykaste, Kyzikos, and Telegonos. The work further investigates the roles of key figures like Athene, the Nekyia, Teiresias, Antinoos, Pylos, Eustathios, and Penelope, offering a comprehensive understanding of the Odyssey's construction and enduring literary value. This book remains a valuable resource for scholars and enthusiasts seeking a deeper appreciation of Homer's masterpiece.
