Publisher's 3/4 leather binding, title and author printed on front cover boards in elaborate font. Significant rubbing on cover, but illustrations inside are in very good condition with only minimal foxing. Dimensions 22 x 17 inches. Felix Octavius Carr Darley (1822-1888) was an American watercolorist and illustrator, known for his illustrations in the works of many prominent 19th century authors. This volume is a collection of his illustrations for Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter" accompanied by the excerpt from the novel describing the scene. From note opposite on back of title page: "The illustrations contained in this volume have been reproduced by the Heliotype process, from Mr. Darley's original drawings". The author dedicated this volume to his friend, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Seller Inventory # 015619
