14x9 cm. Original gilt-stamped leather, boards detached, worn at edges. Some leaves loose. Second edition (from preface). iv, 464 pp., seven small folding maps (world and six continents), plates. The plates include the frontispiece central time calculator with an attached spinning disk for determining the time in different cities and countries. This was roughly 50 years before time zones were standardized. There is also a paste-down slip inside the front cover with an advertisement for other works by the same author. Dated from a note on page 422: "It is but a little more than fifty years since the United States took their station among the independent powers of the civilized world."
