While heart disease declined 60 percent in the last 30 years in the United States, it has escalated by 300 percent in India. Indian men, no matter where they live, have one of the highest rates of heart disease in the world, even if they have low levels of traditional risk factors such as cholesterol. Each year about 15 lakh Indians die due to coronary heart disease. In fact, even non-smoking vegetarians under 40 who exercise regularly may be at high risk. While 60 percent of heart attacks amongst Americans occur after the age 55, nearly half of all heart attacks among Indian men strike under the age of 55 and 25 percent under the age of 40. Indian women also share these high rates of heart disease. A growing number of young urban Indians are now being afflicted. Children as young as 10 have fatty deposits and people as young as 20 have plaque formation in the arteries.
Fatty diet is one of the major causes of heart disease. People need to be made aware and motivated to adopt diet suitable for keeping the heart fit. There is confusion about the quality of different cooking oils. It is attempted to outline the properties of common cooking oils to make it convenient to select the one suitable to the heart and the individual pocket. Beneficial effects of some food items have also been highlighted.
An inactive life enhances the risk of heart problem, therefore proper exercises and how much one should exercise has been described.

Hospitalization is a major demoralizing event for the patient and his care takers, who need to be educated to be ready about the program in the hospital and the time there after.
