Comprehensive Natural Products III, Third Edition, Seven Volume Set updates and complements the previous two editions, including recent advances in cofactor chemistry, structural diversity of natural products and secondary metabolites, enzymes and enzyme mechanisms and new bioinformatics tools. Natural products research is a dynamic discipline at the intersection of chemistry and biology concerned with isolation, identification, structure elucidation, and chemical characteristics of naturally occurring compounds such as pheromones, carbohydrates, nucleic acids and enzymes. This book reviews the accumulated efforts of chemical and biological research to understand living organisms and their distinctive effects on health and medicine and to stimulate new ideas among the established natural products community.
- Covers the complete arc of natural-products science in one authoritative reference: isolation and structure elucidation, biosynthetic pathways and enzyme mechanisms, chemical ecology, synthetic biology, and modern discovery methods.
- Captures the decade’s defining advances: genome mining, biosynthetic gene clusters, mass spectrometry and metabolomics, biosynthetic pathway engineering, and the bioinformatics and AI tools that link genes to molecules.
- Bridges chemistry and biology for a multidisciplinary readership: chemists, biochemists, synthetic and molecular biologists, pharmacologists, microbiologists, and drug-discovery researchers in academia and industry.
- Structured for fast, flexible access: from indepth overviews for students and newcomers to critical, forward-looking chapters for specialists.
- Connects fundamental science to real-world impact across medicine, agriculture, and biotechnology.

About the Author
Distinguished Professor Tadhg Begley is Robert A. Welch Foundation Chair and Derek Barton Professor in Chemistry at Texas A&M University. He is currently on sabbatical as Newton Abraham Visiting Professor at Oxford University. Professor Begley’s research is focused on the mechanistic enzymology of complex organic transformations, particularly those found on the vitamin biosynthetic pathways. He also has a strong interest in the development of chemical biology and has helped organize several major conferences and is the co-organizer of the NIH sponsored Young faculty mentoring workshop. He is the recipient of the Merck Faculty Development Award, the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award and the ACS Repligen Award in Chemistry of Biological Processes for outstanding contributions to the understanding of biological processes with particular emphasis on structure, function and mechanism. He is co-author of The Organic Chemistry of Biological Pathways (2005) and the editor of Wiley’s 4-volume Encyclopedia of Chemical Biology, as well as a section editor for the previous editor of Comprehensive Natural Products in 2010. Professor Begley is a member of the editorial boards for Molecular Biosystems, Vitamins and Hormones, Bioorganic Chemistry, Chemical Biology and Drug Design and Journal of Biological Chemistry. He has an h-index of 49.
