About this title

Synopsis

This book explores a theoretical model of plasma, or fully ionized gas, in axially symmetric radial compression. The model is specifically tailored to describe the behavior of a pinch, a plasma-compressing phenomenon that occurs when rapidly increasing magnetic fields are applied to the boundary of an ionized gas. The author derives and analyzes a system of equations to describe the evolution of the plasma, including expressions for ion and electron pressure. These equations are used to numerically simulate three types of pinches: the theta pinch, the pure z pinch, and a hybrid z-theta pinch. The simulations show that the model captures the main features of these pinches, including the formation of compression waves and the reflection of these waves from the center of the plasma. Overall, this book provides a detailed and insightful examination of a specific theoretical model of plasma compression, and its potential implications for understanding the behavior of pinches in real-world applications.
