Computational Neuroanatomy

Computer models, simulations, and visualization now offer unprecedented opportunities to obtain a deeper understanding of the complexity of nervous system structures. In Computational Neuroanatomy: Principles and Methods, the groundbreaking investigators who founded the field review the principles and key techniques available to begin the creation of anatomically accurate and complete models of the brain. Combining the vast, data-rich field of anatomy with the computational power of novel hardware, software, and computer graphics, these pioneering investigators lead the reader from the subcellular details of dendritic branching and firing to system-level assemblies and models. Their peer-reviewed articles describe the algorithms needed to generate virtual dendrites in 3D and explain the theory and practice of computing network connectivity. They also discuss the use of 3D graphics for the quantitative description of neural tissue from single neurons to regions, as well as the methods for integrating anatomy and physiology in neuronal models.
Authoritative and groundbreaking, Computational Neuroanatomy: Principles and Methods comprehensively integrates for the first time both the principles and the methods that are playing a central role in generating a complete, unitary, and functional neuroanatomical model of the brain.
