He contends that computer-science studies and courses in programming neglect to prepare students for the world of business. This savvy guide, based on his own 20 years' experience, is the antidote. Having chosen to study computers and information technology already begins to predetermine one's career or job options. Nonetheless, Simon recommends a period of self-assessment prior to initiating the job hunt. He then discusses interviewing, resumes, and salary negotiation, and he identifies factors to consider when deciding whether to accept an offer. While much of Simon's advice will benefit any job hunter or new job holder, his numerous sidebars offer in-the-know tips that are especially relevant to those working in information technology.
