Computer Networks: Data Communications, Internet and Security [Hardcover] [Oct 17, 2023] Elahi, Ata and Cushman, Alex

The hands-on textbook covers both the theory and applications of data communications, the Internet, and network security technology, following the ACM guideline for courses in networking. The content is geared towards upper undergraduate and graduate students in information technology, communications engineering, and computer science. The book is divided into three sections: Data Communications, Internet Architecture, and Network Security. Topics covered include flow control and reliable transmission; modulation, DSL, cable modem, and FTTH; Ethernet and Fast Ethernet; gigabit and 10 gigabit Ethernet; and LAN interconnection devices, among others. The book also covers emerging topics such as IPv6 and software defined networks. The book is accompanied with a lab manual which uses Wireshark, Cisco Packet Tracer, and virtual machines to lead students through simulated labs.

Dr. Ata Elahi is a professor of Computer Science at Southern Connecticut State University. Dr. Elahi received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University in 1982. He is the author of the following textbooks: ARM Assembly Language with Hardware Experiments, published by Springer 2015; ZigBee Wireless Sensor and Control Network, published by Prentice Hall, 2010; Data, Network & Internet Communications Technology, published by Thomson Learning 2006; Network Communication Technology, published by Delmar Thomson Learning 2001.

Alex Cushman is a graduate student in the Computer Since Department at Southern Connecticut State University. He has extensive experience in networking, data communications, and cybersecurity, and he is currently working on a thesis related to enhancing privacy in software-defined networks.
