A new edition of the computer science "cookbook" text focusing on high level data modeling and relational database systems. Halpin (asymetrix research laboratory, U. of Queensland) uses the Natural Language Information Analysis Method (NIAM) version of Object-Role Modeling (ORM) as the matrix for his introduction to database design, information system development, uniqueness constraints, mandatory roles, constraints, relational implementation, conceptual schema transformations, and design methods. Each illustrated section supplies classroom tested exercises, summaries, and questions with answers. The appendices include information on subype matrices, SQL, and CASE tool support.
