Item description from seller

18 pp. Original wrappers. Very Good. Sir Malcolm Sargent, conductor, of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, with Jacqueline Du Pré as cello soloist, in Edward Elgar, cello concerto in e minor. Program notes about the Elgar cello concerto on pp. 8-9. Du Pré's first performance of the Elgar cello concerto with Malcolm Sargent was in August 1962 at her debut at the Proms. She performed Elgar again with Sargent in August 1963 at the Proms, after which Sargent said to Du Pré "I have conducted all the great cellists, but never enjoyed a performance as much as tonight's" (Elizabeth Wilson, Jacqueline du Pré, p. 116). Then in September 1964 she performed Elgar with Sargent at the Proms for a third time. The concert in the program offered here was her fourth performance at the Proms of Elgar with Sargent (this was a 70th birthday concert for Sargent). Although Du Pré did perform two more times at the Proms (1967, 1969), this concert in 1965 was her last performance of Elgar at the Proms. On p. 15 of this program there is information about a concert on 3 September 1965, with Jacqueline Du Pré as cello soloist, in Ernest Bloch, Schelomo, with Norman Del Mar conductor, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
