THIS VOLUME is the 1908 edition of William Chaffers' authoritative Handbook which was revised and enlarged by the leading expert and contemporary of Chaffers - Frederick Litchfield. It covers some 3,500 examples of pottery and porcelain marks and monograms from the Chinese Tung-han dynasty (circa 25AD) to the late 19th century, and includes works from China, Japan, Germany, Italy, France, Holland, Belgium, Poland, England and Wales. All the famous names, such as Delft, Meissen, Dresden and Sevres are included, together with the great names of the English potteries in Derbyshire and Staffordshire, and there is a 20-page Index to places, manufacturers and artists.
