xxiv, 448 pp. Includes index and errata. Bound in contemporary full calf leather spine over heavily worn boards, with gilt gold banding and a distinct red morocco title label to the spine. Internal pages remain securely bound; scattered light foxing and occasional handling soil typical of age. Signed and dated dedication page to prominent abolitionist William Wilberforce, Esq., celebrating the 1807 abolition of the slave trade.
Provenance / Inscriptions: A rich copy featuring multiple mid-19th-century ownership inscriptions on the endpapers belonging to John Crocker (dated 1844) and John Young Crocker (dated 1852) of Ebberston, Malton, Yorkshire (historically recorded as a prominent local land agent). The endpapers also show contemporary ink penmanship practice and calligraphic flourishes.
Good / Very Good antiquarian condition. Binding solid with some expected shelf wear and rubbing to the leather and edges. Internally clean, readable, and complete. A fascinating copy with excellent regional English provenance.
