A Concise View Of Oregon Territory, Its Colonial And Indian Relations: Compiled From Official Letters And Reports, Together With The Organic Laws Of The Colony by Elijah White. The book collects official letters, annual reports, and firsthand accounts documenting the establishment of American settlement in the Oregon Territory, the organization of emigrant parties, and the administration of Indian affairs west of the Rocky Mountains. It covers the Willamette Valley settlements, the interactions with the Wallawallas, Keyuse, Nesperces, and other tribes, and the role of missionaries and the Hudson’s Bay Company in shaping policy and daily life. It includes transcriptions of meetings, proposed laws, and codes for both whites and Indians, as well as detailed reports of explorations, incidents of conflict, charity, education, and commerce. The volume provides a historical snapshot of frontier governance, native relations, and legal frameworks proposed to regulate settlement prior to U.S. jurisdiction solidifying in the region.
