ज़िंदगी की नदी में तीसरी बार लगाई गई डुबकी हैं डायरियाँ  वास्तव में नदी का उद्गम भी तय करता है कि नदी की धार, प्रवाह, अंतिम छोर और संगम कैसा होगा, कहाँ होगा। विगत चार-पाँच वर्षों से लेखक द्वारा कई-कई घंटे बैठकर छियालीस वर्षों में अनायास लिख गईं छियालीस डायरियों का पुनर्लेखन किया गया। इस प्रक्रिया में ज़िंदगी को तीसरी बार जीया गया। पहली बार, ज़िंदगी अपने मूल स्वरूप में हुई। दूसरी बार, डायरीकार द्वारा प्रत्येक दिन डायरी लिखकर इस जीवन को पुनर्जीवित किया गया और तीसरी बार, अब लगभग आधी सदी के पश्चात् फिर स्मृतियों की नदी में अपनी पुरानी नाव लेकर उतरना हुआ। दरअसल, ज़िंदगी की नदी में तीसरी बार डुबकी लगाना हैं डायरियाँ। यह समूचे जीवन की नदी की एक-एक बूँद को पीना है। वास्तव में यह पूर्णता को जीना हुआ। स्वयं को अखंड़ता में देखना।  आइए, इन डायरियों की श्रृंखला की पहली कड़ी कंडक्टर की डायरी से गुज़रते हुए ज़रा रुककर स्वयं को पलट लें। स्वंय को पढ़ लें। क्या मालूम कोई कीमियागर कंडक्टर अपने सूफ़ियाना अंदाज में हमें कोई ऐसा टिकट थमा जाए, जिससे हम अपने भीतर की नदी का बहना देख लें। भले ही भीतर की नदियों का उद्गम एक न हो, स्वरूप एक न हो, सीमाएँ एक न हों, अभिव्यक्ति के चिह्न एक न हो, मगर कौन जाने, लेखक की नदी की धार और पाठक की नदी की धार कुछ-कुछ एक जैसी हो। कौन जाने, इन नदियों की गहराई एक जैसी हो। कौन जाने, नदियों का जल स्तर एक सा हो। कौन जाने, धार की लकीरें खींचने की कोशिश एक हो। कौन जाने, वह सामर्थ्य एक सा हो, वह आस्था एक सी हो, वह द्वंद्व एक सा हो। कौन जाने, इन नदियों का अंतिम छोर एक जैसा हो। कौन जाने, इन नदियों का संगम एक हो।
