The Confessions Of Adalbert.. Translated From The German By S. Jackson by Francis Theremin is an epistolary spiritual autobiography that traces the interior life of a German clergyman as he moves from guilt to grace. Structured as a sequence of letters to a trusted friend, the narrative follows his departure from Switzerland, his struggle with remorse after a forbidden passion, and his arduous journey toward faith. The work surveys his encounters with literature, theatre, theology, and lovers of art, before culminating in a radical conversion in which he declares Jesus to be God and embraces the Christian gospel. Through conversations with friends such as Steindorf and Strahl, the text probes debates about fate, miracles, the meaning of the sacraments, and the uneasy balance between solitary devotion and social life. As a meditation on sin, forgiveness, and the transformative power of grace, it remains a dramatic and unsettling exploration of what it means to be created for divine union.
