A lifetime of accumulation. Interesting family, well read friends, and the home I purchased all had collectors of books that I am grateful for. Some of these bookshelves remind me of someone special to me who passed away, I read all I can and I still read, but a house with books along every wall floor to ceiling is more a liability for my offspring than an impressive showpiece. I count 18 bookshelves, I also have 20+ boxes of books that I rotated out to make room for more books. I have engineering books, sailing books, social commentary, the entire collections of novelists well known; Michael Creighton, John Steinbeck. Barbara Kingslover, Phillip Roth. I have some gems before ISBN numbers and I probably have two or three real collectible first editions. Also an extensive collection of books from China that were mostly banned in China. I have come to terms with the fact that one human at 59 years old will never make a dent in reading every book in this house and I'd like to share them with you. Yes, I want/ need to make some income from their sale, but more importantly I know the thrill of finding "that" book that you've been looking for or a textbook or instruction manual for something that you are passionate about. It is more important that people find that old out of print book that they've been looking for rather than me having a library on display that rivals some small town collections. I want to sail the Chesapeake now, I need to 'open up' the house by brightening it and removing some book shelves
