Print on Demand. This book explores various methods of water conservation and management, particularly in the Southwestern United States where rainfall is scarce and unpredictable. The author presents several techniques for capturing and utilizing runoff water, including total diversion, partial diversion, and hillside crescents. These methods are designed to increase forage production, reduce soil erosion, and create pockets of fertile land in otherwise arid environments. The author emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate sites and managing grazing livestock to ensure the long-term effectiveness of these water conservation measures. By delving into the principles of water management and conservation, this book provides valuable insights for farmers, ranchers, and anyone seeking to optimize water resources in arid regions. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

Proven methods for saving soil and boosting harvests on sloped land. This practical guide explains how to design contour crescents, dikes, and runoff systems that capture water and reduce erosion. Learn step by step how to lay out crescent dikes, manage spillways, and divert or concentrate runoff to improve crop and forage production.
Drawing on field-tested techniques, the book shows how to assess slopes, space water-collection features, and maintain structures. It also offers clear guidance on choosing layouts, evaluating sediment in irrigation water, and deciding when to store moisture in the soil for later use. Readers will find concrete descriptions, illustrations, and examples that connect design decisions to actual yields.
- How hillside crescents and contour dikes concentrate water for better growth.
- Ways to control erosion while turning runoff into productive land for crops or forage.
- Practical checks for sediment content, water availability, and seasonal use of flows.
- Illustrated steps for planning, building, and maintaining erosion-control structures.
Ideal for landowners, farmers, and ranchers looking to improve moisture management and crop yields on challenging slopes.

For this reason, we kindly ask that you double-check the title, edition, and your shipping details before placing an order.
If you change your mind after ordering, you are welcome to return the book once it arrives, and a refund will be issued in accordance with AbeBooks’ return policy.
