At fifty, the European Court of Human Rights finds itself in a new institutional setting. With the EU joining the European Convention on Human Rights in the near future, and the Court increasingly having to address the responsibility of states in UN-lead military operations, the Court faces important challenges at the national, European and international levels. About the Authors

Andreas F�llesdal is Professor of Political Philosophy at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Oslo.

Birgit Peters is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the Research Centre for European Environmental Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Bremen.

Geir Ulfstein is Professor of International Law at the Department of Public and International Law, University of Oslo.
