- Book 6 of 7: THE ABUNDANCE TRILOGY Reclaiming Human Dignity in an Age of Scarcity
Why does the policy argument for children keep losing — even when the evidence is overwhelming?
The answer is not political will, not insufficient evidence, and not the wrong messengers. The answer is architectural. The American Constitution, written in four months under emergency conditions by men whose founding trauma shaped every close call, contains no affirmative obligation to the child at the bottom. This is not a flaw in the document. It is the design.
The Constitution with the Absent Floor is the sixth and culminating volume of the Abundance Series by child psychiatrist Ravinder Nath Bhalla, MD. It applies a single clinical instrument — the child test — to the foundational layer that the previous five books were pointing toward: the constitutional architecture itself.
What does this provision produce for the child with no buffer between herself and what the document actually delivers?
That question, applied to the American Constitution and to six comparative constitutional documents from South Africa, Germany, Finland, Norway, India, and Kenya, produces a consistent finding: where constitutions encode an affirmative floor beneath child development, children's lives are measurably different. The United States — the wealthiest large economy on earth — has the highest child poverty rate of any OECD nation. Finland, ranked the happiest country in the world for nine consecutive years, has a child poverty rate one-fifth of America's. The gap is not explained by wealth. It is explained by constitutional design.
What you will find in this book:
- The Philadelphia Convention examined as a clinical event — founders whose founding trauma encoded the scarcity orientation into the document's close calls
- DeShaney v. Winnebago County and Castle Rock v. Gonzales — the Supreme Court cases that crystallize what the absent floor produces in practice
- The three-fifths compromise as arithmetic of extraction — and the women and children who were taxed without representation by the same founding that proclaimed liberty
- Six comparative constitutions showing that the abundance orientation was available at every founding moment — and what it produces for children when it is encoded
- Why the policy argument keeps losing: the constitutional architecture enables capture, and the capture reinforces the architecture
- The reconstruction: a proposed Child's Bill of Rights, a state-level amendment strategy, and an AI-assisted parental proxy vote designed to give children legal representation in the political process
This is not a partisan argument. It applies the child test with clinical precision across the political spectrum. The founders were not villains. The document is not worthless. And the absent floor is real — encoded in 1787, protected by the immune system ever since, and producing its consequences in the lives of actual children today.
The child test is simple. The child is waiting. The word posterity is in the first sentence. It has always been there.
About the Abundance Series: Six volumes applying a clinical framework — distinguishing the scarcity orientation from the abundance orientation — across the full range of human organization, from the individual mind to the founding document.
