See photos for condition details. Hardcover, volume 1 only of a two-volume set. Red cloth boards with gilt on front and spine. The front is clean and the gilt is bright, but the spine shows fading and scuffing as well as edge bumps. The rear board has some spotting and light soiling present. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting etc. Page 1 has a small tear the bottom left edge, which measures about one half of an inch. Pages are toned due to age and there is some light foxing present, though this is mainly limited to the end pages and pastedowns. Also included in the book is a small slip of paper that states "With the Complements of the Author". There is no signature and the slip of paper is printed, not written. Perhaps this is in reference to who translated it as the author, George Sand, died in 1876. Whatever the reason as to why it was inside the cover, it will stay with the book as this was how we received it.…
