As new hardback, maroon linen with gold lettering to the spine. Patterned dust jack in near fine condition; has not been price clipped. B/W and sepia illustrations, copies of lithographs, maps. Professor Harvey corresponded with Sir William Hooker, Professor Asa Gray and other outstanding scientists of his time. Harvey's specialties' were marine algae but he was equally knowledgeable about higher plants. His letters are of interest from a social and historical point of view, as well as for their scientific content.
