24mo., 13cm, First Edition, 258p., with half-title, in contemporary full tree calf, boards and edges little rubbed, gilt decorated panel borders and devices, deep red morocco label, edges stained red in contemporary style, marbled endpapers; institutional ink stamp on title, full bookplate on front pasted own endpaper, clean and tight copy, very good to fine condition, (hoL). ~ Qu rard 4:295. Keratry (1769-1859) was a French writer and politician. At an early age, he was in favour of the French Revolution and its egalitarian principles. In 1790, Keratiy arrived in Paris with his law degree and published his first volume of literature, Contes et Idylles, which was inspired by the master of the genre, Salomon Gessner. Throughout his life, Keratry was involved in publishing, including several novels, philosophical essays, art criticisms and historical works and was also one of the founders of Le Courrier-Frangais. This first edition of the author's first published work has become quite scarce. Seller Inventory # 41766
