The Contexts Reader collects over sixty of the best articles from the award-winning magazine Contexts in one affordable anthology.

Recognized by The Library Journal as one of the "Top 10 Best New Magazines of 2002," Contexts magazine is highly regarded for its synthesis of the diverse work of well-known sociologists into essays aimed at a general audience.

The Contexts Reader reproduces 67 complete articles from the magazine, features over 50 of the photos from the original essays, and includes new study questions at the end of every reading.

Jeff Goodwin edited Contexts magazine with James Jasper from 2005 to 2007. He is the author of No Other Way Out: States and Revolutionary Movements, 1945-1991 (2001) and coeditor (with Jasper) of The Social Movements Reader (2003) and Rethinking Social Movements (2004). He teaches sociology at New York University.

James M. Jasper is an independent scholar living in New York. His most recent book is Getting Your Way: Strategic Dilemmas in Real Life (2006), a sociological alternative to game theory that incorporates culture and emotions.
