Continental Divide (The Destroyer)

With the Presidential election in full swing, “crumbling infrastructure” has become far more than a political talking point: bridges are falling apart all across America, leaving CURE baffled. Is a bloom of renegade algae eating away the bridge supports? If so, why is the water still safe? Are the bridges being targeted by terrorists? If so, why are the targets deserted?

This would normally be a job for the Department of Transportation, not the assassin’s art of Sinanju — but after a great scientist is abducted by aliens, and a team of amateur detectives and their dog start nosing around for clues, the mystery suddenly gets deeper, weirder, and much more dangerous than Remo and Chiun ever expected. With America’s roadways on the verge of the greatest traffic jam in history, and the moon wreaking havoc on Remo’s behavior, Remo and Chiun run into an old friend they had hoped never to see again. Remo had better get his head in the game, and fast, or his years of Sinanju training will be nothing more than water under the bridge!

ABOUT THE SERIES: Sentenced to death for a crime he didn't commit, ex-cop Remo Williams is rescued from the electric chair and recruited by a secret government organization as an assassin, targeting criminals who are beyond the law. Remo's trainer is a curmudgeonly old Korean named Chiun, whose mastery of the terrifyingly powerful martial art of Sinanju makes him the deadliest man alive.

The winning combination of action, humor, and mysticism has made the Destroyer one of the best-selling series of all time. With more than 150 books and over 50 million copies sold worldwide, the Destroyer series has been praised by the LA Times as "flights of hilarious satire," and gave birth to the mythology of the brash young Westerner taught by an ancient, inscrutable master.

WARREN MURPHY was born in Jersey City, where he worked in journalism and politics until launching the Destroyer series with Richard Sapir in 1971. A screenwriter (Lethal Weapon II, The Eiger Sanction) as well as a novelist, Murphy’s work has won a dozen national awards, including multiple Edgars and Shamuses. He has lectured at many colleges and universities, and is currently offering writing lessons at his website, WarrenMurphy.com. A Korean War veteran, some of Murphy’s many hobbies included golf, mathematics, opera, and investing. He has five children: Deirdre, Megan, Brian, Ardath, and Devin.

R.J. Carter is the product of early exposure to American comic books, which he devoured in between sessions of large bowls of sugar-coated cereals and Saturday morning cartoons. Despite this, he still managed to get the girl and have a family, but only because she deluded herself into thinking he would change. He is the author of ALICE’S JOURNEY BEYOND THE MOON, NICHOLAS’ CAGE, and A KNIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS. He is also the co-author of TIME HUNTER: THE SIDEWAYS DOOR. Most recently, he has contributed the story “Fool’s Paradise” to Warren Murphy’s Destroyer anthology MORE BLOOD.
