Optimal control theory and optimization--two areas of applied mathematics that develop theories and procedures for improving the performance of a given process by an appropriate choice of parameters and controls--are the focus of this monograph. Examines theoretical aspects of optimization and control at an advanced level. Some computational methods are also treated. A new approach to the solution of optimal control problems is developed and studied by using measures to associate a nonlinear control problem with an infinite-dimensional linear programming problem.
