La rabia es una zoonosis de origen v�rico debida a un Rabdovirus neurotropo que ataca a algunos animales, especialmente el perro y se transmite por v�a de saliva en las mordeduras del perro y el gato. Es una enfermedad de sacrificio obligatorio y declaraci�n obligatoria. Son receptivos a ella todos los animales homeotermos. Los animales salvajes sospechosos deben ser sacrificados para examinar el cerebro en busca de evidencias de la rabia. Despu�s de que el animal muerde, la prevenci�n de la rabia se basa en la eliminaci�n f�sica del virus mediante el tratamiento adecuado de la herida y en los procedimientos inmunol�gicos espec�ficos.
