From Library Journal
Zaslavsky is a photographer who fell in love with Mexico's lively marketplaces on her first visit years ago. She has since lived in Mexico and traveled all over the country, exploring its markets and sampling regional specialties at its fondas, where street foods of all sorts are prepared and sold. Her cook's tour is organized by region, from Jalisco to the Yucatan. A brief introduction to each area or major city is accompanied by boxes about the markets (e.g., which stall has the best of what) and "places to go and things to eat," followed by recipes from local cooks. Each one is credited, and they include lots of mouthwatering dishes. Zaslavsky sought out the "real" Mexico, and many of her favorite eating places are not found in most travel books. A unique cookbook and guide, this is highly recommended. [See also Bruce Kraig and Dudley Nieto's Cuisines of Hidden Mexico, reviewed above.?Ed.]
