Coping with Birth Control

Accelerated Reader is a program based on the fact that students become more motivated to read if they are tested on the content of the books they have read and are rewarded for correct answers. Students read each book, individually take the test on the computer, and receive gratification when they score well. Grade 7 Up-- A very competent and complete treatment of sexuality, birth control, and sexually transmitted diseases. This book is an outgrowth of a course that the obstetrician-gynecologist author founded on sex education for inner-city seventh- and eighth-grade students. It is far superior to Alan Nourse's Birth Control (Watts, 1988), and supplants earlier books on contraception. This book should please both conservatives because of its stance against pre-marital sex and liberals because of the breadth, depth, and clarity of information in it. An unfortunate cover illustration, showing two uneasy looking young people with a bed looming in the background, is the only jarring note.
