About this Item
Hardcover. This book is a portrait of Ifaluk, an atoll in the Caroline group situated west of the Marshalls and north of New Guinea. The authors spent several months there in 1953 on a scientific expedition to study the relationship of man to his environment in an island setting largely untouched by civilization. [Dust jacket] Particularly important are the local fishing industry and life on the coral reef. Marston Bates was a professor of zoology at the University of Michigan. Includes numerous black-and-white photographs. Octavo. Blue cloth-covered boards with blue title in black box on spine. Black dust jacket with photo to front panel and title in yellow to front and spine panels. Jacket shows minor rubbing and light stain to rear panel. Jacket is price-clipped. Pages are slightly yellowed but clean. 254 pages, including index. SPAC/7232. Seller Inventory # 1570
