Hershberger provides innovative, imaginative designs, and then shows children how to make the costumes from paper, fabric, paints, felt pens, foil, trims, and yarn. Recycling is encouraged through the use of such items as shower curtains and old clothes. Children are directed to get permission to set up shop, to not waste clothes or good cloth, and to clean up afterward. Make Cards! uses 12 techniques to create 21 different cards, including pop-ups, puzzles, books, game boards, collage, and pull-outs. There is a range of skill needed, and while all the cards can be made by children, some may require adult help. The finished products are uniformly of high quality and well worth the time and effort expended.
