Barry Castle studied at the National College of Art in her native Dublin, where her tutors included Seán Keating, Maurice MacGonigal and John Kelly. She exhibited with the Solomon Gallery in Dublin, and a major retrospective was held by the RHA in 1998. Daughter of novelist and playwright Maura Laverty and wife of illustrator Philip Castle, she painted and illustrated many of her mother's children's books. In 1985, David Shaw-Smith and RTE made a documentary on the life and work of Philip and Barry Castle entitled; "Life Without Shadows." Her work can be found in such collections as The National Library of Ireland, The National Self-Portrait Collection in Limerick, University of Limerick, AIB and The Arts Council of Ireland.
