PREFACE AN endeavour has been made to bring the Eleventh Edition (published in April 1925) up to date in such a way as to avoid unduly increasing the bulk and price of the Manual. Numerous changes have taken place occasioned by important legislation since the last edition, notably by the Rating (Scotland) Act, 1926, the Housing (Scotland) Act, 1925, the Town Planning (Scotland) Act, 1925, the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1926, and many other Acts dealing with the Sale of Food, Dangerous Drugs, Public Health, Rent Restriction, Diseases of Animals, etc. Numerous new statutes have been incorporated in this new edition, and references to the various Orders and Regulations thereunder duly given where necessary. As in previous editions, suggestions for the improvement of the Manual are cordially invited, and a note of any errors or omissions-almost unavoidable in a work of this magnitude-will be helpful.
