A Course of Critical Lectures: Or, Systematical Theology, in Four Parts, Viz : Theology, Demonology, Christology, and Anthropology

A Course Of Critical Lectures: Or, Systematical Theology, In Four Parts, Viz : Theology, Demonology, Christology, And Anthropology by John Samuel Thompson surveys a fourfold theological program. Thompson advances a Unitarian-leaning, rational critique of orthodox Christianity, arguing for the oneness of God, universal salvation, and the moral reform of Christian doctrine. Through a sequence of lectures, the work covers Theology, Demonology, Christology, and Anthropology, and it frequently engages in polemics against the Trinity, immortal soul, and eternal hell. The text also contains extensive discussions on biblical translation, the history of manuscripts and versions, and the authority of traditional creeds. Thompson treats Religious Liberty as a fundamental right and defends free inquiry and interpretation of Scripture. The volume incorporates prefatory material on the Hebrew and Greek originals, critiques of established dogmas, and arguments for universal benevolence and rational religion, culminating in a vision of a reformed Christianity grounded in reason and revelation.
