Course Made Good

Course Made Good is that most appealing of books written about the workplace--one that combines a cast of salty characters, an unusual locale and occupation, and real insight into personal and cultural change. Using the medium of the graphic novel, Betsy Carroll chronicles her somewhat bumpy journey from timid shipboard lackey to confident sea captain. A revealing and humorous look at the maritime industry, Course Made Good is thoroughly entertaining.

Betsy Carroll grew up in the 1950s and 60s, a time when girls were not allowed to wear pants to school. Years later Betsy wore pants every day to her job as a ferryboat captain for the state of Washington, the third woman to achieve that rank. She spends her free time boating, fishing and camping with her husband throughout the Pacific Northwest, which she still calls home.
